The everyday problem

Why restaurants switch to printed labels

  1. Masking tape and marker labels are hard to read, easy to skip on a busy morning, and undated food is one of the first things an inspector looks for.

  2. Working out use-by dates in your head for dozens of prepped items every day is slow, and one wrong day means waste or risk.

  3. Take-home meals, sauces and family packs leave without the ingredients and allergen information guests increasingly ask for.

What you get

How FoodLabel App helps restaurants

Sign up as “Full-Service Restaurant” and we’ll set up suggested categories and a few sample items. You can change everything later.

Prep & use-by stickers

Tap an item and print a 2 × 1 in sticker with the prepped time, a use-by time worked out from its shelf life, and the use-by day in big letters anyone can read across the walk-in.

Critical items stand out

Mark high-risk items such as marinated raw chicken or ground beef as critical. Their stickers print with a heavy border and “DISCARD AFTER USE-BY”.

Labels for take-home food

Price, net weight, Enjoy By date, ingredients, a CONTAINS: allergen line and a barcode, with an optional Nutrition Facts panel on the 4 × 6 in or 2 × 8 in label.

Consumer advisory built in

Items you mark as raw or undercooked, like a burger cooked to order, print the consumer advisory automatically.

Received On stickers

Date deliveries as they come through the back door so first-in, first-out is obvious to everyone on the team.

Initials on every sticker

Turn on employee initials and each prep sticker shows who made it, which makes questions at the end of a shift much shorter.

Four menu label sizes and a 2 × 1 in prep sticker

Each tablet or PC remembers the label size its printer uses, so the counter and the kitchen can print different sizes.

FAQ

Questions from restaurants

Can line staff print stickers without a manager?

Yes. Staff accounts can print labels and stickers and enter production counts. Owners and managers look after the menu, the prep list, locations and billing.

How is the use-by time worked out?

Every prep item has a shelf life. When you print, FoodLabel App adds it to the prepped time in your location’s timezone and prints the result with the use-by day of the week in large letters.

We run several restaurants. Can each one have its own address?

Yes. Each location has its own “Packaged by” address and timezone, so labels and dates are right for that restaurant. Get in touch about pricing for groups.

Do restaurants need Nutrition Facts on their labels?

Usually not for food made to order. Chains with 20 or more locations must show calories for standard menu items and have more nutrition information available on request, and pre-packed retail items can have their own rules, so check what applies to you. The Nutrition Facts panel is optional in FoodLabel App.
